Website Domains
Domain names are subject to the provisions of trademark and competition law. Trademark disputes may arise when a domain name is reserved that conflicts with older intellectual property rights.
An effective domain naming strategy helps people find information about Bayer, its business areas and products.
It is essential that Bayer protects its own trademark rights from unauthorized use by third parties and ensures that the rights of third parties are not infringed through reservation and use of domain names by Bayer. Therefore, Bayer must always be the registered owner of its domain names.
The domain naming strategy provides Bayer with a systematic, customer-oriented structure for naming domains, thus embodying the brand architecture of our company by strengthening product brands and allying them with the umbrella brand on the web. All domain names must follow these guidelines with the aim of clearly defining each site either as:
a Bayer website,
a Bayer product website, or
a topic or campaign website related to Bayer
and enabling users to find, identify and remember Bayer sites easily. In addition, such a clear strategy also improves the visibility of the Bayer websites to search engines.
The Domain Registration Process
Possible domain names should be considered and requested as soon as the idea for a trademark or a specific campaign starts to evolve. Valuable names and especially common phrases are often already registered by other parties in the hope of being sold later for a big profit. Failing to check on the availability of domain names sufficiently in advance carries the risk that the domains may have already been registered or are even in use. The Domain Name Management Team can help reduce this risk by checking on the availability of any desired domain name.
Domain Name Management Team
The Domain Name Management Team is charged with the management of internet domain names such as ordering and renewal, DNS (Domain Name system) configuration and maintenance of a central database of all Bayer internet domain names.
