OUTDOOR & INDOOR BRANDING

Building Signage – Exterior

Building Signage – Exterior

The Bayer Cross is an integral part of the outside appearance of buildings. It symbolizes the identity of our buildings, helps visitors to orient themselves and enhances employees’ feelings of belonging to one big family.

The choice of signage elements for outdoor use is determined by the function of the site, the location of the building and its architecture. Bayer signs should function as accents, draw attention to buildings and entrance areas, and highlight signposts, building signs and floor level signs.

A harmonious, well-coordinated combination of several signage elements is always sensible, as long as they are not placed too close together. Flooding small spaces with Bayer Crosses is counterproductive and must be avoided. When in doubt, contact Corporate Branding for advice.

Backlit Bayer Cross

The Bayer Cross contributes to the brand profile and creates trust. Representative Bayer buildings should always be marked by a backlit Bayer Cross. It is also possible to erect large, free-standing Bayer Crosses at leasable advertising locations outside the company premises. Such locations should be exposed sites with high traffic frequency.

Examples

Optimal size of the Bayer Cross

The Bayer Cross can be mounted on the roof as well as on a wall of a building. When choosing the size, please ensure that the proportions of the Bayer Cross, the building and the surroundings are suitable. However, visibility must not be impaired.

The following table provides a list of the required minimum diameters to ensure that a free-standing Bayer Cross is legible at a great distance:

Backlit Pylons

The backlit 4 m high pylon is used in public areas to identify company headquarters or entrances to factory premises. As a rule, it is lettered and/or designed on both sides and used whenever it is not possible to mount a Bayer Cross directly on the facade or roof of a building.

However, the pylon is not used on factory premises in this form.

Flags

The Bayer Cross dominates flags as the brand symbol. Only flags in the design shown here are to be used. Flagpoles should preferably be equipped with an outrigger arm to ensure that the Bayer Cross on a flag can be seen even when there is no wind.

Flags in Bayer design can be purchased in our Bayer Brand Store (link only accessible for Bayer employees).

Direction and information sign

Outdoor information signs are used for orientation on Bayer factory grounds, and not for building signage. The Bayer Cross and the company name are integral parts of the sign and their positions cannot be changed on the sign.

A uniform typeface size is used on all signs for additional text. Varying sizes of typeface may only be used in justifiable exceptional cases, which must be agreed on in advance with Corporate Branding. The text may be arranged in two columns. Pictograms and arrows can also be used for better orientation.

Building entrance sign

Building signs are used for clear identification of buildings and entrance areas. For the text of the building entrance signs you must ensure that the names of the divisions and departments are always placed above the building designation and/or building address. The building designation and/or address are generally placed at the bottom of the sign.

Bayer Cross on glass surfaces

The Bayer Cross can be mounted in the interior of buildings with glass surfaces as well as on exterior surfaces. On glass doors, the Bayer Cross is mounted in the middle at a height of 1700 mm, and on both panes of double glass doors. The size should be 1/3 of the glass door width.

Recommended material

  • A decorative film displaying the Bayer Cross can be affixed to glass surfaces.
  • Corporate Branding recommends the following film: 3M Scotchcal ElektroCut, transparent graphic film, no. 7725-324.
  • The visual impression of this film is close to that of etching or sandblasting.
