Implementation & Rollout Phase

When planning how to make your e-learning program available to your target audience, it helps to consider how to best roll out the program to the participants. Learning Management Systems (LMS) are used for this purpose. An LMS is an application that automates the administration, tracking, and reporting of training events. By using a LMS, it is therefore possible to manage e-learning programs in catalogues or assign them directly to participants. It is also possible to track learning progress and create reports on it.

In 2017, a new LMS system (SuccessFactors / My Learning) was rolled out globally to replace the heterogeneous local LMS landscape at Bayer and to target all e-learning needs. This process was initiated by means of the “One Solution” project.

While the rollout and replacement process is still in progress and there are still local LMS alternatives available, this Digital Guide to e-learning focuses on describing the rollout process in SuccessFactors LMS.

In most cases, SuccessFactors LMS / My Learning is the right choice for rolling out e-learning content. However, there might be circumstances that require a different LMS, such as if your project requires on-site hosting for the e-learning content.

Further Delivery Options

Since e-learning programs are usually self-running web applications, there are also other options for making e-learning available. Particularly when tracking the learning progress is of no concern, e-learning programs might also be hosted on a normal web server or even on a SharePoint. A further option might be to embed an e-learning program directly into the application as an extended form of online-help.
